ABOUT ME
I'm LaurenTiare, and I'm a US based artist, illustrator, and animator. I hold two BA's from the University of South Carolina: Media Arts/Art Studio and German.
PAINTINGS

MY NEIGHBOR TORTORO PAINTING
This painting was created to pay homage to an iconic scene from the Studio Ghibli film, My Neighbor Tortoro (1988). I started this project while completing my internship to earn my BA in Media Arts/Studio from UofSC. The course I interned focused on the environmental aspect of animation, and how or where said characters would be placed in. With reference to the scene, I used the exact positioning from the scene, however, artistic lisence was taken by using a color palette that contrasted from the original. For the lighting techniques, a similar or identical method was employed.

THE EARTH
This artwork was a personal project of mine. Wanting to improve my proficiency in semi-realism, the earth was the chosen subject for doing so. Shading, dimension, color, and depth were the aspects I wished to excel in, and I feel that was done successfully as a result of this painting. My area of expertise lied within the traditional uses of multi-media, and applying that same knowledge to digital art greatly enhanced my artistic dexterity.

BB8 PAINTING
This artwork was another personal project, with the intentions of enhancing my proficiency at semi-realism. Taking a challenge, I decided to paint BB8 from StarWars: The Force Awakens (2015) and take artistic liscence by combining them within the iconic binary sunset scene from StarWars: A New Hope (1977) on the planet Tatooine. As one can see, you will notice the drastic improvement in comparison to the above project, titled The Earth.

NON REPRESENTATIONAL PAINTING
Created during my internship with Elite Animation Academy, I was tasked with exploring what the instructor called “linear movement” and how it was employed in animation and or digital painting. With that in mind, I made a non-representational piece representing the movement of wavy lines with various color palettes.
ANIMATIONS

SPLASH
This animation was completed whilst doing an internship with Elite Animation Academy. The traditional animation course focused on not only characters, but the environment in which they were placed. Tasked with choosing an element from nature or life, I took liberty in animating the splash. The animation itself is 8FPS (frames per second), however, a total of 19 drawings were made for completion.

BLINKING EYES
Similar to the above, instead choosing to animate blinking eyes. Wanting to emphasize the importance of eyes, I slowed the frame rate to 7FPS (frames per second) in order to elicit a solemn tone. In total, four drawings were made for completion.

BOUNCE CYCLE ANIMATION
This animation is a personal project. I wanted to practice more movement related animations in order to perfect the principles of animation, that are vital in making an animated film. The cycle itself is 10 FPS (frames per second) and a total of 26 drawings were made.
ILLUSTRATIONS

ANIME MODEL SHEET
This model sheet was created while completing an internship to earn my BA in Media Arts/Art Studio. Interning a character design course, my instructor had focus on the primary features of character creation. Taking the eyes, face, mouth, and nose, I gave them expressions as seen on one side of the page. On the other, I drew facial bases and added those features later on. This is crucial for animation as it is paramount to know what the character(s) will look like in a story.
IRIS
This illustration was a project I completed within my first 2 years of college. My professor created an assignment where drawing from life was the main topic for said artwork. With that freshly in mind, I chose to draw an Iris flower, using multi-media (ie; colored pencils and markers). Furthermore, wanting to take it a step further, dewdrops were added on the front petals to give dimension and a sense of realism.

VIDEO PROJECTS

JOURNEY DOCUMENTARY
This project was a recent assignment from MART590 (New Media Documentary), where I decided to create a documentary within a virtual space. Angela Washko’s "The Council on Gender Sensitivity and Behavioral Awarness in World of Warcraft" was the source of inspiration for the intended concept. With this in mind, I gathered 10-16 hours of in-game footage from fellow players and interviewed them on their own experience(s) playing Journey (2012).

FOUND FOOTAGE PROJECT (AH, YES FRUITSNACKS)
This is a currently completed project from my Experimental Film course. Our objective was to compile pre-made footage to convey a message and how we could alter and shift it’s tonality to create a moving image. I applied similar or identical methods from a project in my New Media Arts course to this one in order to convey a narrative.

WHO'S CALLIN' ME? (GRADUATE PORTION PROJECT)
This project was made in adaptation to a previous found footage assignment I created in my Experimental Film course. Part of my Media Arts MA Acceleration Program plan was to have an extra assignment to be turned in at the end of the semester. The objective was to adapt on said assignment using similar or identical methods in order to create a new video remix that perpetuates a narrative.
